Meet the horses
Buddy
Buddy, our beloved first lesson horse, is now 30 years old. Rescued from difficult circumstances nearly 14 years ago, he’s become a treasured member of our Sea Island Stables family. Now thriving in retirement, Buddy delights in the treats and affection showered on him by our students, volunteers, and staff.

Jasmine
Jasmine, our spirited first Marsh Tacky, holds a special place at Sea Island Stables as a proud representative of South Carolina’s critically endangered state horse. This fiery redhead mare, ridden by our barn manager Melissa captivates everyone with her playful spirit and fondness for treats—though she’s currently on a diet to keep her healthy after past medical challenges. Joining us at just 14 month old, Jasmine has now been here close to a decade.
Rocky
Rocky is our little one eyed wonder. We do not know how he lost his eye but that does not slow him down. Our students adore this spirited pony for his sassy charm, making him a favorite at our barn. Rocky is a 13 year old Hackney pony standing at around 14 hands tall.

Champagne
Champagne is our little Barbie dream horse, as sweet as she is beautiful. Champagne is not owned by the barn but we do have her us on a long-term lease. She is a favorite among all the little girls. Champagne loves jumping, cantering, and peppermints.
Goose
Goose is our super sweet 6 year old off the track thoroughbred. Goose came to us last summer and has very quickly become a barn favorite as well as the personal ride for the barn owner Sarah. Goose is a big boy standing at 16.1 hands tall. Goose had several wins in his racing career but ultimately his heart was just no longer in it. Goose loves little kids and has a new found love for jumping.

Maverick
Dallas
Dallas is our sweet little Appaloosa lesson horse. Dal is not owned by the barn but is the personal ride of one of our students, we are so thankful to get to use her in lessons and kids and adults alike love riding this spunky little mare who absolutely loves to run and jump. Dallas came from Texas last year and is adored by her 9 year old owner and family.

Maverick is our other off the track throughbred. He came in the same day as Goose and of course they had to have matching names. Maverick is our largest horse standing at 17.3 hands tall. Mav is 5 years old and came off the track due to arthritis in his knees. Due to his arthritis Maverick is not able to jump but he can walk, Trott, and canter; movement is actually good for arthritis and helps him not to get to stiff. Maverick loves carrots and one on one relationships with his riders.
